Your Skin and Massage

 In Uncategorized

When we think of the benefits of massage most people rarely consider the skin. However, this organ plays an important function in your massage experience. It is the forefront of how your body senses touch and alerts your nervous system whether to be relaxed or run for safety (for example, if the pressure is too strong).

Your skin absorbs whatever your massage therapist is applying on it. Have you considered this?

When you apply something on the skin, the integrity of the ingredients make it’s way into the bloodstream and eventually affect a person’s health. If you receive massage on a regular basis, whatever it being used by your massage therapist is being absorbed by you (and by the therapist).

Years ago, I began bringing my own lubricants to my massage sessions. Discovering companies that had created superior products and that didn’t stain my clothes (or my massage therapists sheets) made me feel at ease. Some businesses choose inferior products to cut costs and that’s understandable. But, my skin health is a priority and bringing in my own allows me to enjoy my massage even more. My therapist often appreciates the change in product as they are exposed to something new and it is safer for their bodies to receive as well.
