When you’re lifting weights, you’re tearing muscle fibers. This leads to soreness which can lead some gym bunnies to make a couple of mistakes when booking a massage. Let’s talk about the top ones:
1. Asking for Stretching – if you’re really really sore, that means that your muscle tissue is torn and is in healing process. Excessive stretching will increase the tear. Don’t ask for stretching if you’re extremely sore after working out.
2. Asking for Deep Tissue- sometimes deep pressure is needed to workout standard muscle tension BUT getting a deep tissue massage within the same week of your workout is not wise. Instead opt to contrast therapy like ice and or heat with moderate pressure in your massage.
Your massage therapist should know how to guide you when you come in for your appointment. The right therapist will educate you on what your body needs to help you improve performance and avoid injury.
